Arthur Browns is a trading name of Adviser Platform Lda (APL), regulated by the Portuguese ASF, registration 607124296.
What we do and don't do
Arthur Browns does not hold the FCA permission to advise on transfers from defined benefit or final salary pensions, and does not give that advice. Arthur Browns can advise on pensions with guaranteed annuity rates.
If you would like regulated advice on a defined benefit transfer, and your transfer value is £50,000 or more, we can introduce you to an FCA-authorised firm that holds this permission. You do not have to use the firm we introduce you to, and you can check any firm on the FCA Register.
We can only help people who live in the UK.
Our free chat is not advice
We do not give defined benefit pension transfer advice. Our free chat explains, in general terms, how defined benefit pensions, transfer values and the advice process work. We will not comment on whether a transfer is right for you, and nothing on this website or in our conversations is a personal recommendation.
If your safeguarded benefits are worth more than £30,000, the law requires you to take advice from an FCA-authorised firm with the pension transfer permission before you can transfer.
Free, impartial guidance is available from MoneyHelper, and from Pension Wise if you're 50 or over.
How we may be paid
Our initial chat is free. Arthur Browns may receive a fee from the firm we introduce you to if you become their client. The firm will give you details of its own charges in writing before you agree to go ahead.
If Arthur Browns advises you directly, for example on a pension with a guaranteed annuity rate, we will explain our charges in writing before you agree to go ahead.
The FCA's starting assumption and the risks
The FCA requires advisers to start by assuming that transferring out of a defined benefit pension will not be suitable for you. A transfer should only be recommended where it can be clearly shown to be in your best interests. For most people, keeping a defined benefit pension is the better option.
If you transfer, you give up a guaranteed income for life that usually rises with inflation, and often a spouse's or dependant's pension too. Your new pension will be invested, and its value can fall as well as rise, so you could get back less than the value transferred and your income may not last as long as you need. Once a transfer has gone through it cannot usually be reversed.
Examples on this website
Any case studies on this website are illustrative examples. Names and figures are invented to explain the process. They are not real clients and are not advice. Tax rules can change, and how they apply depends on your circumstances.
Pension scams
Be wary of cold calls, "free pension reviews", promises of high returns, pressure to act quickly, or offers to access your pension early. Check the FCA's ScamSmart site and the FCA Register before dealing with any firm.

A complaint about advice given by a firm we introduce you to should be made to that firm first.
